The program deliberately positions itself as complementary to (not a replacement for) any existing tradition. That is why it is based on non-sectarian inclusivity so that participants can integrate it with other practices or follow it on its own.

Lay spiritual teaching:
The program breaks down the traditional divide between clergy (who teach) and laity (who receive). Based on the rationale that teaching deepens understanding far beyond passive consumption (If you really want to learn something, teach it,) lay people are encouraged to become active teachers and facilitators of spiritual practice. The program defines a “lay minister” as someone who maintains a perpetual student identity rather than an accomplished teacher or scholar status. This is intentional and aims to ground ministers in lay status minimizes ego-based pitfalls. It also preserves a “beginner’s mind,” which is considered more conducive to wisdom. The ultimate source of authority is viewed as one’s own Buddha Nature, not external teachers or writings.

Personal responsibility as transformation:
Taking on the ministerial role changes one’s relationship to the teachings.
